A Wonderful Place to Live - Most of the Time

New Mexico is located in the Southwestern United States.  It was 47th state to be admitted to the Union in 1912. While many people have gotten their impression of New Mexico from the many Hollywood movies made here, most people are surprised when they visit here due to the diversity of both the climate and the peoples.  Six of the worlds seven climate zones can be found in New Mexico, from the Northern Sonora Desert to High Alpine climates in the Northern Mountains near Taos.  While our southern areas do experience a hot dry desert climate, our Northern Mountains receive plenty of snow, and much of the state can be considered to be a temperate continental climate.

One of Albuquerque's most well known and attended events in the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta.    This event is attended by hot air and gas balloon enthusiasts from allover the world.   Through this event, my family has made many friends from The Netherlands.  When they visits us here, Usually in early October, they really enjoy our warm, sunny, bright southwest weather.  After visiting them at their home near Amsterdam, I can see why, since Holland's weather is typical of that of Northern Europe--Cold, gloomy and wet.  Of course when I visited there, I really enjoyed their weather which I considered to be luxuriantly humid and moist--great for my skin.   I also enjoyed their landscape many, many lakes and canals, acres of forests and lush fields, and of course, fields of cultivated flowers as far as the eye can see.

Having visited Holland, I realized that each family enjoyed visiting the other because each of our areas is so different from the place we call home.  While we may love our homes, we certainly enjoy visiting and experiencing a place that is so different from those we are used to.   With that in mind, just in case any residents of the Ukraine wonder what I am doing blogging about their home land, I am posting here two recent assignments I have done about New Mexico to help them learn a little about my home.
